National Groundwater Awareness Week is March 9-15, 2025!
Did you know that 44% of the national population relies on groundwater as their primary water source? At Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District (BCVWD), we recognize the importance of all water resources—including groundwater—to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply for our community.
“Groundwater plays a crucial role in our region’s water supply” stated Board Vice President Lona Williams. “Protecting and managing this resource responsibly ensures a sustainable future for our residents, businesses, and environment. Small changes in how we use water today can help preserve it for generations to come.”
This week is a great reminder to test, tend, and treat private water wells to ensure clean, safe drinking water as well as to support policies that protect groundwater and promote water conservation.
💡 Water-Smart Facts:
- 10% of homes have leaks that waste 90+ gallons per day
- The average household leaks can lost nearly 10,000 gallons of water per year
- Nearly 30% of daily household water use goes to outdoor watering—and in hot months, it can be as high as 70%!
💦 Smart Watering Tips:
- Use native plants in your landscape—they require less water and fertilizer!
- Limit chemical use around your yard and dispose of them properly to avoid contaminating groundwater.
- Water lawns and plants during the coolest parts of the day to reduce evaporation.
- Adjust your sprinkler schedule seasonally—small changes can lead to big savings!
At BCVWD, we are committed to responsible water management and ensuring a sustainable future for all. Join us in celebrating Groundwater Awareness Week by fixing leaks, using water wisely, and spreading awareness!
