August is National Water Quality Month!

Every time you turn on the tap, you expect clean, safe, reliable water, and at Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District, that is exactly what we work to provide every day.

Throughout August, National Water Quality Month reminds us that protecting our water isn’t just the responsibility of water agencies. While BCVWD continuously monitors and delivers high-quality drinking water to more than 22,000 customers, we all have a role to play in protecting the rivers, streams, and groundwater that support our community. Clean water begins with everyday choices.

“Providing safe, reliable drinking water is at the heart of everything we do,” said BCVWD Board Member David Hoffman. “But protecting water quality is a shared responsibility. Small actions taken by each of us, at home and throughout our community, help preserve our local water resources for future generations.”

Here are four simple ways you can help protect water quality:

  • Choose a commercial car wash. Professional car washes capture and treat wastewater, helping prevent soaps, oils, and other pollutants from entering storm drains.
  • Pick up after your pets. Pet waste contains bacteria and nutrients that can wash into local waterways during rainstorms and negatively impact water quality.
  • Dispose of medications properly. Never flush unused medications down the toilet or sink. Instead, take advantage of approved medication disposal programs in your community.
  • Recycle used motor oil and antifreeze. Automotive fluids should always be taken to a certified recycling center or service facility, never poured onto the ground or into storm drains.

Protecting water quality doesn’t always require major changes. Often, it’s the small decisions we make every day that have the greatest impact.
