Water Testing and Quality

Ensuring the Safety of Your Drinking Water

Providing safe, reliable drinking water is a responsibility the Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District takes seriously. Water quality testing is not optional, it is required by state and federal regulations and is a core part of daily District operations.

BCVWD water is tested by certified District staff who hold Water Treatment certifications through the State Water Resources Control Board. Samples are collected from multiple points throughout the system, including at the wellhead, within the distribution system, and from storage reservoirs. These samples are then analyzed by independent, state-certified laboratories.

Testing occurs on different schedules depending on the constituent being monitored. Some tests, such as chlorine residuals, are performed daily to confirm proper disinfection. Bacteriological samples are collected weekly throughout the system and at source wells. Other testing is conducted monthly, quarterly, annually, or at intervals set by the State and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The District tests for hundreds of constituents, and most results come back as non-detect. Each year, test results are summarized in the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), which includes only those constituents that were detected. If a constituent does not appear in the report, it does not mean it was not tested, it typically means it was not detected during that year’s sampling period.

Water quality testing is governed by the Safe Drinking Water Act, enforced at the federal level by the U.S. EPA and at the state level by the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water. California requirements meet or exceed federal standards, ensuring a high level of protection for public health.

BCVWD remains committed to transparency, regulatory compliance, and responsible stewardship of the water system. In future posts, the District will share more about how it responds to test results and how water quality is protected from the source all the way to the customer’s tap.
