September is National Preparedness Month: Are You Ready?

Emergencies don’t always come with much warning. Wildfires, earthquakes, extreme heat, power outages and other emergencies can affect our community, and being prepared before they happen can make a big difference.

At Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District, preparedness also means thinking about water. Clean, reliable water is essential every day, but it becomes even more important during an emergency. From having drinking water available at home to understanding how an emergency could affect water use or service, water should be part of every household’s preparedness plan.

Throughout September, BCVWD will be highlighting four simple ways to become better prepared:

• Make a Plan — Know where you will go, how you will communicate, and what your household will do if an emergency affects your home or water service.
• Build a Kit — Keep essential supplies on hand, including drinking water, food, medications, first aid supplies and items for pets and other household needs.
• Stay Informed — Sign up for emergency alerts and know where to find reliable information about wildfires, extreme heat, power outages, water service and other conditions affecting our community.
• Get Involved — Prepared communities look out for one another. Learn how you can help your family, neighbors and community before an emergency happens.

“Preparedness is something we can all take part in. Whether it is planning for a wildfire, an extended power outage or another emergency, taking a few simple steps today can help protect our families and our community,” stated BCVWD Board Member Daniel Slawson. “As a water district, we also want our customers to remember that access to water should always be part of that plan.”
