If You’re Not Sure, It’s Okay to Call

You see a truck stopped next to a fire hydrant. Someone is working around it. It looks a little unusual,  but you are not sure.

Should you report it?

Yes.

As BCVWD continues responding to fire hydrant thefts in our area, we want customers to know that you are not expected to determine whether someone is performing authorized work.

BCVWD employees typically work from clearly marked District vehicles and can be identified as District personnel. However, authorized contractors may also perform work on our behalf and may not always be immediately recognizable.

That’s why, if something doesn’t seem right, it’s okay to call and let us verify it.

“Our community is one of our greatest partners in protecting the water system,” stated BCVWD Board Member David Hoffman. “We appreciate residents who stay aware of what is happening in their neighborhoods and take the time to let us know when something doesn’t seem right. You don’t have to be certain before making a call, your willingness to speak up gives us the opportunity to check it out and helps us protect the infrastructure we all rely on.”

Most importantly, never approach, confront, photograph, follow, or attempt to investigate someone you believe may be involved in suspicious activity. Your safety comes first.

We would rather verify legitimate work than have someone hesitate to report activity that could affect public safety.
