BCVWD Receives ACWA Excellence in Innovation Award Finalist Recognition
Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District is honored to be selected as a Finalist for the 2025 ACWA Excellence in Innovation Award. This recognition highlights the District’s fully in-house completion of its Advanced Metering Infrastructure and Advanced Meter Reading (AMR/AMI) project, an initiative that modernized operations, strengthened sustainability, and improved customer service across more than 23,000 connections.
The project stands out not only for its technological achievement but also for its internal execution. BCVWD staff designed the system architecture, performed all field installations, developed mobile and solar-powered data collectors, and deployed the entire platform without reliance on external contractors. This approach improved efficiency, increased accuracy, and provided a scalable model for other public agencies.
Innovative Solutions Delivered In-House
Through a hybrid model of 90 percent AMI with solar-powered remote collectors and 10 percent AMR using drive-by units built by District staff, the system expanded coverage, improved meter accuracy, and reduced long-term operational costs. The upgraded platform enables real-time alerts for leaks and high usage, supports faster customer service response, and enhances transparency for the community.
The project also delivered significant measurable results, including reductions in labor and administrative workload, fuel savings, accelerated billing processes, and enhanced environmental benefits. These improvements reflect BCVWD’s commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and responsible stewardship of public resources.
