Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District (BCVWD) is proud to announce that it has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the District’s 2017 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
The recognition is particularly significant for BCVWD, as the 2017 report was the District’s first Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. Accounting and Finance staff prepared the report in early 2018 and submitted it to GFOA for review. In December 2018, the District was notified that its first submission had earned the Certificate of Achievement.
Excellence in Financial Reporting
GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to encourage state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and prepare comprehensive financial reports that demonstrate transparency and full disclosure.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and receiving the award represents a significant accomplishment for a public agency and its management.
Reports submitted for consideration undergo a professional review by members of GFOA staff and its Special Review Committee. The committee includes experts in public-sector financial reporting, including financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics, and other finance professionals.
A Commitment to Transparency and Accountability
Receiving this recognition for BCVWD’s first Comprehensive Annual Financial Report demonstrates the District’s commitment to providing clear, comprehensive, and transparent financial information to its Board of Directors, customers, and community.
The achievement also reflects the work of BCVWD’s Accounting and Finance staff to strengthen the District’s financial reporting practices and provide the public with meaningful information about the District’s finances.
